Satkosia Tiger Reserve is the bright green forest
provided a natural abode for many exotic, birds animals and reptiles. If you
are planning a short trip with your family or friends, this unexplored tiger
reserve can soak you with the aroma of untouched beauty. It is a heaven for
nature lovers and bird watchers to enjoy the serenity of the jungle. It is spreads
along the magnificent gorge over the mighty river Mahanadi in Orissa.
Established in 1976 as a wildlife sanctuary, Satkosia is a paradise of immense
scenic charm. It is one of the best ecosystems in the country, representing a
diverse floral and faunal extravaganza. The name Satkosia originates from two
words; sat meaning seven and kosk meaning two miles, indicating the length of
the gorge as 14 miles or 22 km. Saktosia Tiger Reserve was designated in 2007,
and comprises the Saktosia Gorge Wildife Sanctuary and the adjacent Baisipalli
Tikarpada Tikarpada is the main attraction for visitors. One gets a panoramic view of the Satkosia Gorge. Tikarpada has been a favourite place for local picknickers. The erstwhile Gharial Conservation and Research Centre is located here where one can see live specimens of Muggers and Gharials. Picknickers can avail the facilities at ‘River view Picnic’ at Gaindi on the banks of River Mahanadi. Visitors can avail boat rides and see the basking crocodiles and the majestic view of the Satkosia Gorge. Guests can also check into the Forest Guest houses or relax at the Nature Camp on the sprawling sand banks. The Temple of Lord Shiva on the banks of river Mahanadi is a pilgrims delight.
Prunakote Purnakote is located 10 km from Tikarpada on the Main PWD road. One can enjoy the beauty and intensity of the forests at Purnakote. There are many trekking paths from Purnakote
Sitalpani This is in the zone of tranquility and is a cooler place. The scenic beauty of the place is really enjoyable. A water reservoir is present here. Many wild animals can be sighted here.
Labangi Labangi is famous for its pristine and tranguil natural setting. It is highly preferred by visitors. The forest guest house is located on a hill top overlooking the majestic forests. Visitors can do numerous trekkings on the forest roads and can visit the Takarsingha Water hole. Many wild animals frequent here.
Sisupathar There is a dam at Sisupathar village on Suhagi nala. Picnic spots are near the dam site. Tourists can sight wild elephants during summer.
Binikei Temple of Goddess Binkei on the bank of river Mahanadi is 8 kms west of Tikarpara is a famous pilgrimage destination.
Badamul Badmul is located opposite to Baliput in Nayagarh district. It is a favourite picnic spot on the banks of river Mahanadi. One can stay on the irrigation I.B. from where visitors can view the river Mahanadi.
Baliput is a tiny village located on the banks of river Mahanadi in Cuttack District. The area is famous for its scenic view of the river along a chain of towering hills on both sides. Baliput is 20 kms from Tikarpara. Visitors can enjoy picnicking and boating here.
Upon your arrival at Bhubaneswar airport/ railway station, you will start drive towards Tikarpada wild life sanctuary, on way meets across wild animals and the driving inside the jungle is thrilling and adventurous. Reaching at eco camp check in .Evening free and have a walk on the river side of Mahanadi. Enjoy the surrounding hills covering from four sides to the Satkosia gorge famous for Gharial. Over night at the nature camp.
After having Breakfast you will be leaving for Enjoy the nature and the jungle covering the gorge and trekking inside the jungle, boating in the river enjoy the Gharials in the river belt. Overnight in the camp.
After having Breakfast Boarding the vehicle for onwards journey to Bhubaneswar, on the way visit the old jagannath temple at Angul and the Vishnu Sayana statue on the river belt of Mahanadi at Talcher. From Bhubaneswar continue with local sightseeing or Board the train/flight for onwards journey.
